Has this ever happened to you?

Client: Hello. A coffee please.
Cashier: A coffee? Can you be a little more specific? Coffee is the only thing we sell here. We have expresso, americano, latte, cappuccino, frappuccino, mocaccino, machiato ...
Client: A tasty coffee?

Well, guys, don't worry. This isn't going to happen to you. Earlier, we learned how to order fast food in Spanish and today we will learn how to order a coffee. Let's go!

Remember, guys, if you like this lesson, do not forget to subscribe and "Like" it. So, today's lesson has three parts.
  • First I'll give you an explanation and vocabulary related to order a coffee.
  • Then you go see me ask for one
  • and then you're going to order your own coffee in Spanish.

The first thing you have to decide is whether you want a hot or cold drink. Then you have to choose the type of drink. Each beverage has a different ratio of coffee, milk, and foam.

Hot drinks
  • Espresso: it is only coffee, that is, a concentrated shot.
  • Americano: (called red coffee in Colombia) is coffee and water.
  • Coffee with milk: usually has equal parts of coffee and milk.
  • Cappuccino: it's coffee, milk, and lots of foam.
  • Latte: coffee, lots of milk, and little foam.
Cold drinks
  • Coffee with ice: this brings coffee with ice cubes.
  • Iced coffee (also called slush): it is coffee with crushed ice.
  • Frappuccino: granita with whipped cream.
If you do not want caffeine, you can order it decaffeinated.

For more flavor:
  • You can add liquid caramel, a teaspoon of sugar, an envelope of sugar or sweetener,
  • Also cinnamon, grated chocolate.
  • Types of milk: whole milk, semi-skim milk, skim milk.
  • Size: small, medium, large.

Now you are going to see me ask for a coffee. But pay attention because then you are next in line and you are going to order your own coffee after me.

Cashier: Good morning.
Client: Good morning. Can you give me an American coffee with a double shot of espresso?
Cashier: Do you want sugar or milk?
Client: Both, please. An envelope of sugar and a little milk
Cashier: What kind of milk?
Client: Entire
Cashier: What size?
Client: Medium.
Cashier: And do you want it hot or cold?
Client: Cold, but only with ice cubes, not hail.
Cashier: Very good. Your name?
Client: Karin.
Cashier: It's coming, Karin.

Now it's your turn. Read the lines that appear on your screen to practice asking for your coffee.

[Repeat conversation from above]

Well, guys, thank you very much for sharing a coffee with us here at idiomaPRO and we'll see you in the next lesson.
